This privacy policy explains how AppForceps (the "Software") handles user information. The Software is a Data Container editing tool for iOS developers, used to locally view and edit the Data Container of an iOS simulator or real device that the user manages, all on the user's own Mac. The Software is developed and distributed by Kusumoto Masahiro (the "Developer").

1. Personal information we collect

The Software does not collect, store, or transmit any information that identifies the user personally. It has no account registration or login features, and it contains no advertising SDKs, crash reporters, or other third-party trackers that identify the user personally. That said, as described in "2. Anonymous usage data (telemetry)" below, the Software does collect anonymous startup statistics that do not identify any individual.

2. Anonymous usage data (telemetry)

Once at each GUI startup, the Software sends a single anonymous startup event to PostHog (hosted as PostHog Cloud in the US region), an analytics service. The information sent is limited to a randomly generated identifier that does not identify any individual, the app version, the OS type, and the CPU architecture. It never includes anything that could identify the user or the data the user edits, such as name, email address, IP address, file contents, or file paths. This data is never sent from the command-line tool (CLI). Collection is enabled by default (opt-out); a notice is shown on first launch, and it can be disabled at any time by unchecking "Send usage data" in the in-app settings panel.

3. About the data the app handles

The iOS simulator and real-device Data Container (files such as plist, SQLite, JSON, LevelDB, and MMKV) that the Software edits and views are all processed locally on the user's own Mac. This data is never transmitted to the Developer's or any third party's servers.

4. About information obtained when connecting a real device

When a real device is connected, the Software obtains information such as the device name and the list of installed apps via devicectl, but this too is only processed locally on the user's own Mac and is never transmitted externally.

5. About log storage

The Software stores logs such as errors only in ~/Library/Logs/AppForceps/app.log on the user's own Mac. These logs are never transmitted to the Developer or any third party.

6. Automatic update feature

To check for new versions at startup, the Software sends HTTPS requests to GitHub Releases (kusumotoa/AppForceps-releases). These requests do not contain any information that identifies the user. Downloading and installing an update is performed only when the user explicitly takes action, and any update whose signature cannot be verified is rejected.

7. Provision to third parties

Because the Software does not collect information that identifies the user personally or the user's data, no provision to third parties occurs beyond the anonymous statistics described in "2. Anonymous usage data (telemetry)," which are sent to PostHog as a third-party service provider for analytics purposes.

8. Cookies and tracking technologies

The Software is a native macOS app and does not use cookies. Aside from the anonymous startup statistics described in "2. Anonymous usage data (telemetry)," it does not use any other tracking technologies.

9. Disclaimer

The Software is provided free of charge on an as-is basis. The Developer does not warrant the operation of the Software and is not liable for any damages arising from use of the Software.

If this privacy policy is changed, the updated version will be posted on this page and the last-updated date will be revised.
